Spaghetti isn't just for kids...Moms NEED it too!

I don't know what to call this. Is is tomato sauce? I suppose it is. It's not the typical tomato sauce you're use to seeing in the super markets. It's not rich and creamy like some of the stuff you find in the jars.

I have nothing against the jars....I have my favorites, trust me. And there's nothing quicker than emptying a jar. And nothing wrong with it either...

But....what do I do when a certain male adult in the house is sick of my weekly go-to meal? The one that's guaranteed to be eaten by the girls and loved! What does a mom do when her Sir Sportsalot refuses to eat another bite of her beloved Prego?

Not the spaghetti!!!

I know!! She does a quick switch and makes her spaghetti more adult-ish. Basically, the same ingredients...different form....

Voila La!

This is perfect for weeknights. After a long day of work, school, sports, etc. You can have dinner on the table lickity split!

Chop up an onion, mince some garlic...slice up a few mushrooms...saute....

Set aside and make room for the meet. In my case, I used chunks of chicken breasts this particular night

Season with some salt and pepper...maybe a bit of rosemary, Italian seasoning and saute until cooked through.

Return the onions and mushrooms to the pan and add 2 (14 oz) cans of tomatoes. I usually use the kind thats already seasoned with Italian seasoning. I've used diced, sliced, and whole. What ever floats your boat....dump it in the pan with the meet....

Heat until warmed. Taste....maybe add a little more of something....garlic? salt? Serve over your favorite pasta and top with mozzarella cheese...

Instant Adult Spaghetti that even Sir Sportsalot will eat.

  1. I have so much fun reading about Mr. Sportsalot,
My Mr Couchsportsalot on the other hand doesn't want meat mixed to his pasta (Italian, right!!), they have to be two separate dishes.
Good go for you, girl. Imagination + improvisation, best result.

  2. mmmmm...adult spaghetti is good! Thanks to Sir Sportsalot we now have another tasty dish to try... Along with the boooof I'm still waiting to make ;P

  3. Now that's my kind of spaghetti! Just throw it all in there! Don't tell Michele you use Prego--yikes!!

  4. That dish sounds like something I would love!!!!

  5. Nice, homemade sauce is the bomb. I'll refrain from commenting on the jars. ;) (j/k)

  6. "Adult spaghetti"? Is that kind of like "adult entertainment"? :)

Your spaghetti looks great for a change of pace. It made me think about "chicken spaghetti", have you ever had that heart clogging and guilt inducing casserole? I haven't had it in years but man it's good.

    Let me go find it:

    Rotel Chicken Spaghetti
    1/2 Stick butter
    1 Bell pepper
    1 cup celery
1 can s Cream of mushroom sou
1 can s Cream of chicken soup
    1 can s Diced tomatoes
    1 cup onion
    1 pound Velveeta cubed
    1 pound Thin spaghetti
    4 chicken breast

Boil chicken until white throughout (30 min). Saute bell pepper, onion, celery in the butter until tender and onion translucent. On low heat melt velveeta into tomatoes and soups. Boil spaghetti till done. Tear chicken into small pieces. Combine all ingredients in a big casserole dish.

  7. Looks great! I might have tell my Mr. Sportsalot to try chicken the next time. He makes the best spaghetti sauce so he gets spaghetti duty now.

Teach him for being such a good cook!

  8. Dajana - an italian who separates his meat and pasta? oh girl...I feel for you.

Heather - ooooh yes...the boooooof. I can't wait for it to cool off. seriously, its driving me nuts but theres no way in this 100' weather i could stand to have the oven on all day :(

Cathy - LMAO!!! Ya, hopefully when Michele wanders over in this direction, she won't read the Prego part haha

Erica - its a pretty good little dish, I'm sure you would like it :)

Bob - ha ha .....step away from the jar.

Spryte - why did I just picture Homer Simpson when you said that? LOL

Chris - I'm kinda wondering what you do with your spaghetti! HAHAHA. And nope, I've never had that ...that...I don't even know what to say! The more I look at the ingredients, the more intrigued I become. and scared. it must be a concoction from the Velveeta test kitchen.

Moni - I think the first time I served chicken with my spaghetti, the girls gave me a weird look but now that they got over that "mental" bump, they really like it. I'm sure it would be awesome with your mans yummy homemade sauce. Sooo, what else are you gonna teach him to cook? hee hee

  9. I think just about everyone needs spaghetti--such great comfort food. ;-)

  10. Spaghetti-ness is next to Godliness ;) Awesome!!
